Ben Nevis is the first mountain of the National Three Peaks Challenge and is the highest mountain in Scotland, with a height of 1345 metres tall and therefore the highest in the UK.
The route:
Ben Nevis has two main routes; the Mountain Track and Carn Mor Dearg Arete route. We take the Mountain Track route, beginning the ascent near sea level and completing a total of 1370 metres of elevation gain. The total distance of the Mountain route is around 10.56 miles (17 km). You can start your ascent up the Mountain Track from either Glen Nevis Visitor Centre. These paths join early on during the ascent and continue up together, passing the Lochan Meall an t-Suidhe at around 570 metres. The terrain soon changes from here as we begin to zigzag up the rocky terrain and finally climb up to the top of the mountain.
Where is Ben Nevis?
Ben Nevis is located in Fort William, Scotland. We will park in the Glen Nevis Visitor Centre, which is approximately 1.5 miles from Fort William.
